1/12/11 Ten more to go!

So far so good with the Taxol treatments. I am not nearly as exhausted with this medicine as I was with the AC treatments. I have been having some soreness in my fingertips, no numbness though. Thankful that this treatment is doing what it needs to and leaving me feeling OK.

The JamesCare Breast Health Center is opening a brand new facility. The opening day will be Tuesday, which is my next treatment day. My drive time will be cut in half to the new center. Hopefully the move will go smoothly.

Enjoy the snow everyone and be safe!

Jodi

1/6/11 One down 11 more to go!!

Well, I seem to be doing pretty well with the Taxol treatment from this week. I am not feeling the extreme fatigue that I did with the previous treatments, just a bit tired. The doctor has told me that I may have numbness in my fingers and toes, hoping that if that does occur, it is only mild. That would definitely interfere with work and school. The Taxol chemo treatments are weekly from now until the final treatment.

I am taking another class towards getting my Bachelor's degree. I really want to keep on track and accomplish this goal. Six classes down so far, eight more to go!

The boys are doing well and have adjusted nicely to the changes in our lives. I am lucky to have 3 boys that are relatively laid back and roll with the changes. I know this will someday be behind us and make our family stronger.

I continue to be grateful for the wonderful family and friends that surround us and offer their help. Thank you to everyone for all that you do.

Love,

Jodi

12/22/10 Last AC treatment behind me!!

I am glad to be finished with the Adriamycin and Cytoxan treatments! The next couple of days are the roughest, but I know this was the last of these. I am hoping that I will have less side effects with the Taxol, as they have explained. Heartburn, headaches, and fatigue are the biggest bothers right now (much better than nausea and vomiting!!)

I am hoping to be able to enjoy Christmas, looking forward to getting together with all of the relatives. We are going to Bob's parents tonight. Bob and the boys are staying until Friday, but I will come back tomorrow. I am working Christmas Eve this year, so I need to get extra sleep. We are having brunch with my parents on Christmas Day, then my brother and family will come in Sunday to celebrate.

Ryan is 11 today, HaPpY BiRtHdAy to my Christmas time boy!! Happy birthday also to my Uncle Lou today and Auntie Joyce December 20!

Hoping for my cousin David to get well, he has been in the hospital for several weeks, continued thoughts and prayers go out to him!!

Merry Christmas to everyone!! Thanks again for all the support that everyone has provided to me and my family:))

Love,

Jodi

12/7/10 3 AC treatments down 1 to go!!!

I had my 3rd Adriamycin/Cytoxan treatment yesterday, so I have 1 more to go. They tell me this set it more difficult than the Taxol treatments that are the next 12 treatments. I hope they are right!! Feeling pretty good so far. My taste buds are immediately off though, so my appetite isn't great. No nausea as of yet, I feel very fortunate for that. If the kids could only leave the school germs at the door before they come in, that would help, lol. I have a cold and just hoping it doesn't go into something else.

The kids are doing great with everything. I don't keep information from them. I think it is better to be up front that to have them wonder. They know this is just a bump in the road and the hair loss is temporary. They are good boys, just looking forward to Christmas:))

Enjoy the Holiday Season!!

Love,

Jodi

12/4/10 Just checking in:)

Feeling good! I enjoy the 5 or 6 days before the next treatment. I am back to feeling like myself, my taste and appetite are back to normal, along with my energy. Bob and I went Christmas shopping yesterday and got most of it done! We had a rare evening where all 3 of the boys had sleepovers, so we were able to go out to dinner after shopping. We both enjoyed the time together.

Hope everyone is enjoying the busy Christmas season!

Love to all,

Jodi

11/22/10 Treatment #2 behind me!

Today went smoothly. This was the 2nd AC treatment (Adriamycin & Cytoxen). I anticipate day 3 and 4, experiencing the fatigue that I did last time. Overall they are pleased with how the process and side effects have gone...I am as well. My hair has begun to fall out, it is not noticeable today, but tomorrow will probably be the day I have to say goodbye. It is alright, I now have a new wig that Juli and Linda Signore helped me pick out. It has met the approval of Mom and Bob and the kids!

My Mom came over to help us decorate for Christmas yesterday. It was a good day and I had energy to enjoy decorating with the kids:))

I am finished with another quarter of school now. I get a great Holiday break, classes don't resume until mid January.

Thanks to all of my supportive family and friends:)) Without you this journey would be even more difficult!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Enjoy your dinner and family time!!

11/15/10 One day at a time..

Well, it has been a week since my first treatment. The week has gone pretty well. My energy level is down the toilet, but at least my lunch isn't in there with it, haha. I have been trying to keep moving, the weather has helped. Bob and I rode bikes on Friday and I went shopping with the family yesterday. We had a great dinner at The Cheesecake Factory to end the weekend.

Talk to everyone soon:)

11/08/10 The 1st treatment

The first treatment is finished!! Everything went well today. I am glad to have this day behind me. There have been great advancements with medications to prevent nausea. I am hoping these will continue to keep me feeling good. I am exhausted; I believe that has something to do with my sleep deprivation that comes with night shift working though.

I received the results from the tests that I underwent last week. Everything came back fine...what a relief! They will repeat the tests in 6 months to make sure there haven't been any changes.

Thank you for all of the kind thoughts and prayers. I love you all:))

Grant Labor & Delivery...THANK YOU!

I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support over the last couple of months. Words cannot express what this has meant to me. I have been very touched by the concern, advice, tidbits and love that I have felt from my friends in Labor and Delivery. We have always been a close group of nurses, as we have only each other to rely on in this specialty.

Thank you so much for the wonderful gifts that you have given me! I absolutely LOVE my new Barnes & Noble nook e-reader. What a great gift for me to take to lengthy chemo treatments and appointments. This was a very thoughtful gift, especially knowing my love for reading (many of you sharing that hobby)! I truly love everything that accompanied the nook, as well... the Willow Tree figures, the wine glass, and nook accessories. I appreciate the many ways that you are making this experience a bit more pleasant.

My boys really had a good time at the Blue Jackets game too.

The thing I am most thankful for is your FRIENDSHIP!!!!

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!

I Love you all:))

Love, Jodi
